Journalism can’t continue to be the only industry where the customer is always wrong! If people aren’t engaging with news, then that’s a problem with the product rather than the people. So how do we understand what people and communities want and need? The simple answer is “ask them” - but who you ask, what you ask and how you ask are critical if we want to build relationships, trust and the kind of journalism that meets the needs of everyone, not just a privileged few. “News for All” is a radical collaboration between BBC News and the Media Cymru innovation consortium. By putting marginalised people and communities at the centre of the design process, rather than on the outside, it’s uncovered startling insights about who and what journalism should be for. In this session, you’ll hear how journalists, researchers and community facilitators put connection, collaboration and care at the centre of “News for All” - and what it tells us about how we might reimagine journalism for everyone.
