"Future Affairs" broadens the horizons of journalism by focusing on emerging futures and addressing rapid changes in business, society, and politics. In the workshop, we delve into probable, possible, and preferable developments related to current news, integrating these with their long-term impacts. We also explore how a future-oriented approach can serve as a journalistic theme, a crucial editorial skill, and an innovative working method. Differing from constructive journalism, "Future Affairs" incorporates the consideration of dark futures, offering a comprehensive view of potential scenarios. This approach is designed to empower audiences in new ways, enhancing their understanding of imminent transformations and bolstering their resilience and capacity to thrive in future landscapes. The workshop facilitator, Egbert van Wyngaarden, has authored a book on the subject titled ‘Storytelling Futures – Transformative Media for the Age of Climate Change’ (2023).
