This panel will be moderated by editor Carolyn Thompson, and will include reporter Olha Konsevych. We'll go into the challenges of reporting on hate, and how it can be easy to fall into traps of blaming individuals or forgetting to include potential solutions in your stories, and how they countered that. We'll talk about the data methods, these invisible networks that encircle our communities, and how Olha worked to make it relevant to Germans and to migrants newly arrived in Germany. We'll share tips and ideas for reporting such stories through what CCIJ calls layers of accountability, to review each component of enforcement of legislation, individual responsibility, and institutional role. The goal is to show the public and journalists in the audience how to think beyond 'one bad actor' to a system that's fed and supported from within and outside the country's borders.
