The panel includes Luxi who highlights rural Chinese society, repression, conformism, and the political hardening of the regime through her graphic novel; Nicolas Wild, a French cartoonist who has published a graphic novel about his experiences in Afghanistan and highlights the culture in a journalistic way. In 2005, Nicolas accepted a job offer in Afghanistan where he was given the task of drawing an adaptation of the Afghan constitution. In 2007, he launched a series of books titled Kabul Disco in which he recounted his experiences as an expat there eventually also leading him to Iran and telling unique stories; we will also be joined by Pakistani journalist Taha Siddiqui who recently published his autobiography in the form of a graphic novel titled 'Dissident Club' which highlights his fight for press freedom in Pakistan after dealing with censorship and escaping an assassination attempt. This graphic novel was also selected for Berlinale 2024. This panel will be moderated by Pakistani journalist Zahra Salah Uddin who has worked in the field of journalism for 10 years, including four years in a journalism start-up in Germany. The panel will hold a discussion around the use of art and illustration to tell untold stories about complicated world issues and the experiences of these individuals in how they landed their achievements.
