Anke Vehmeier is head of the local journalism program at the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung/bpb). After studying Medieval and Modern History, Political Science, and Journalism and Communication Studies in Göttingen, she did a traineeship at the Oberhessische Presse (OP) in Marburg. She then worked as an editor at the OP and at the General-Anzeiger in Bonn. In the meantime, she was head of the Bonn office of Medienfabrik/Bertelsmann and project manager of the local journalism initiative for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia "Initiative Lokaljournalismus in NRW" (INLOK).
She has been active for more than 20 years in journalistic education and training as a lecturer, seminar leader, trainer and coach.
She is an author and co-editor in professional literature. Her contributions include titles such as "Innovation in Local Journalism Needs Excellence. A Plea for Sustainable Staff Development," and "Resilient Journalism. How we make public discourse more resilient."
Anke Vehmeier is a member of the jury for the Cologne Research Prize.
