Jey Wegner is a media development consultant and researcher, focusing on questions of engagement, innovation, viability and security. Through the R&D fellowship of Media Lab Bayern Jey recently explored how journalism can help foster civic engagement, culminating in “En.gage - En.rage - En.act” a toolbox for media outlets. Jey currently works as Director of the Fellowship for Critical Voices of MiCT, as part of the Hannah Arendt Initiative and is the Germany and Liechtenstein researcher for the Sembra Media Project Oasis, investigating the sustainability, innovation potential, and impact of independent, digital-native news organisations in Europe.

We talk about how community journalism is key to large scale investigations and small scale engagement, to the development of participation models in cities and how it leads to sustainable business models. We focus especially on how independent newsrooms can establish the workflows and choose the right toolstack to make these practices a daily routine.
