Sara is the Head of Operations at Egbab, connecting media outlets with high-quality stories from local journalists in the Global South. 

Sara is also a journalism educator and communications leader with 20+ years of experience. She has led external and internal communications at US-based AI-driven startups and scale-ups for nearly a decade across North America, LatAm, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.  Among her other experiences, she was an adjunct professor of journalism for seven years at The American University in Cairo, where she headed the School of Business HBR-like AUC Business Review quarterly magazine as Managing Editor and served as interim Faculty Advisor of the student-led campus newspaper, The Caravan. Sara started her early career as a journalist covering news for The Associated Press, Cairo Times, and Reuters. She is passionate about harnessing the power of humanising storytelling to raise awareness, drive impact, and effect change.

Beyond Bloodshed: Rethinking Conflict Coverage

We've all heard the adage:: "If it bleeds, it leads." But is this relentless focus on violence fueling conflict or hindering solutions? News often prioritizes dramatic visuals and violence, neglecting the crucial role media plays throughout all stages of conflict. A new approach is urgently needed. By solely focusing on bloodshed, the media overlooks critical community and peacebuilding efforts. This portrayal reduces people in conflict zones to mere victims, stripping them of their agency and resilience . We need a paradigm shift: how can media be a more constructive force during conflicts?
